The word alphabet is derived from the first two Greek letters alpha and beta. A-Z collectively is called the alphabet. A, B, C, D, E, F…..Z are individually called the letters of the alphabet.

To your question, there are 26 letters of the alphabet, the first one being A and the last one being Z.
