Geotechnical instrumentation management system

MissionOS is a bespoke software platform for the display and interpretation of construction data. The software utilizes a robust, configurable, back-office database to process the construction data management before displaying it on a fast, ultra-light web interface using toolsets to enable rapid interrogation anywhere that has an internet connection.

The key features of the back office database include the processing and auditing of all types of construction data. Efficient storing of the data means that web-based queries from the portal interface are much faster.

The web-based interface provides a much more visual representation of the data making spatial interpretations quicker and easier. Areas where problems are developing can be rapidly identified and action taken to mitigate if necessary.

The MissionOS Portal is the simplest and most intuitive platform available for exploring large construction and instrumentation datasets.

It is designed for the highest level of user customisation with the ability to create an infinite array of personal reports and screens combining construction data with instrument results, hazard and risk, ground investigation and other spatial information. The system is designed to be a collaborative platform empowering the existing site teams rather than relying on separate data-management.

Sydney metro central station expansion

MissionOS is deployed on the Sydney Metro Central Station Expansion. Maxwell GeoSystems is providing its cutting-edge Data Management system, MissionOS, for GLS Monitoring on the major construction works for Sydney Metro’s Central Station.

Works consist of a new 27-metre deep metro station box next to the existing Central station precinct with about 6,000 tonnes of crushed rock excavated each week. In addition, an 80-metre long, 19-metre-wide construction tunnel was excavated under 10 live tracks to deliver the Central Walk. Due to the requirement for uninterrupted rail service, MissionOS is serving as the primary risk management tool, providing real-time notifications of any extensive movements and automated report generation. Sydney Metro – Central Station Main Works instrumentation produces data in many formats. The Generic Data Loader (GDL) is user-configurable and can transfer text file based data into MissionOS databases. MissionOS accepts raw data and performs calculations, or accepts already calculated data from third party software. On Sydney Central, MissionOS employs a number of Python scripts to pre-process data before it enters the database. As well as displaying data in the live portal MissionOS PDF produces 46 daily monitoring reports with a total of 800 canvas sheets displaying up to date data for 19,000 instruments. Data that breaches alarm values creates a blog notice. The MissionOS breach notification system is configured so that GLS monitoring team views all Level 1 Alarms and invites relevant groups to contribute to the breach notice using the MissionOS blog features. Level 2 and Level 3 breaches automatically go out to the groups. Track-mounted prisms are often removed and reinstalled during frequent track maintenance, meaning the MissionOS instrument revision system is vital for continuity of movement history.

Singapore power cable tunnel project

Maxwell GeoSystems is the world’s first partnering for Information Management on Singapore power cable tunnel project  for Singapore Power Assets – NS & EW Cable Tunnels.

Maxwell GeoSystems collaborated with Singapore Power Assets and contractors Samsung, Hyundai, Nishimatsu, SKEC to deliver 40km of deep tunnel and 18 shafts and connecting adits as part of an innovative partnering approach to information. The IDMS contract was delivered by a steering group featuring all of the project stakeholders and became the backbone for information sharing and communication on the project. The MissionOS monitored 48,000 instruments across the project which covered the Thompson and Holland Road Corridors. At one time it had 15 tunnel boring machines operating on a single system making it the largest ever single system implementation for tunnelling in the world. The system was required to be the single source of truth for all information and was used in all meetings from executive board down to specialist instrumentation reviews. The canvas system enabled staff to do away with pre-meeting preparation and design storyboards which were automatically refreshed with project data. The daily use of the system was high and improved project oversight reduced occurrences of excessive ground settlement by 90% when compared to previous tunnels in similar conditions.

Geotechnical slope stability analysis software

MissionOS is a platform which manages active construction data and is an ideal tool to track the data from structural performance & behaviour during the post-construction phase of slope construction.

The long term monitoring of the behaviour of structural elements such as retaining walls, tiebacks and anchoring at slopes, especially for those which are pre-stressed, should be carried out in order to study the actual performance of strain or deflection compared to the design. Often there is a requirement for on-going site monitoring for a period of 2 to 5 years after construction is completed. It is neither practical or economic to continuously take the readings manually after the main active period. MissionOS, is a reliable system which can communicate with the data logger of in-place probe inclinometers and strain gauges remotely, sending out notifications of any unexpected behaviour automatically. The reporting and archiving system can feed the raw data back as reports, tables and graphs in any template, or alternatively, automatically archive them into a project library based on a predefined schedule. A real-time 3D model is also available to view the readings against a visible environment which includes both structural elements and soil types behind the wall.

Civil engineering data system

Stressed bridges and structures require monitoring during the construction and post construction stages to ensure proper performance against design. MissionOS with its real time capability to calculate derived structural parameters from instrumentation measurements and compare this to construction progress and prediction de-risks the construction and provides a powerful platform for long term structural health monitoring.

The MissionOS platform takes instrumentation data outputs in real time from a variety of Digital Acquisition Units (DAUs) and performs automated pre-processing into time series data with accompanying metadata. This data is held in virtual cloud servers or in physical servers in highly efficient forms to facilitate rapid assimilation and dynamic monitoring of stressed structures under variable load. The MissionOS is agnostic to the type of device used and is designed for API and bi-directional control so that the whole system can respond to changing environmental conditions and loading states. The system has the ability to load file based & equation-based predictions for structural behaviours and have this compared with instrumentation results. This allows users to design models to design “normal” operational states. The platform can also host CCTV monitoring and ambient weather data from sensors or web feeds. The MissionOS is also ideal for managing the construction process including installation and QA/QC records and performance tests. The system is designed to be taken forwards as a platform for longer term maintenance monitoring and has built in blog based tools for managing events through established processes whether reactive or proactive and scheduled.
